Trolls Sweep V-Hawks

PALOS HEIGHTS, Ill. – The Viterbo University Men's Volleyball team fell on the road to Trinity Christian College (Ill.), 3-0 (19-25, 20-25, 15-25) on Friday evening. The V-Hawks fall to 10-12 (2-4 CCAC), while the Trolls improve to 6-8 (2-4 CCAC).

 Ethan Davis and Dane Kerkman started the game with a block, followed by a solo block from Guven Gedikoglu. Between kills from Alex Kratzenstein and SJ Nelson, Amdur, Kerkman, Nelson and Kratzenstein all got in on blocks as well. Errors from the Trolls kept the V-Hawks close, but TCC would win the first, 25-19.

After falling behind early in the second, Kerkman and Nelson contributed kills to help the V-Hawks battle back, 10-11. Another big run from Trinity put them ahead, 17-11, then the teams traded the next ten points. Davis fueled a burst for Viterbo with two kills and a Kerkman-assisted block, but it fell short, 20-25.

Gedikoglu, Kerkman, and Kratzenstein all had early kills as Viterbo took the early lead in the third. However, the Trolls rattled off nine straight for the lead, and did not look back. Davis and Nelson each had late kills, but TCC ended the match, 25-15.

Nelson led the V-Hawks with eight kills, Amdur dished 16 assists, and Kerkman had five blocks. Alex Costa had 15 kills for the Trolls.

The V-Hawks return to action on Saturday with matches against Calumet College (Ind.) and Siena Heights University (Mich.).
