V-Hawks Sweep Bees in Conference Match

DAVENPORT, Iowa – The Viterbo University Men's Volleyball team swept St. Ambrose University (Iowa), 3-0 (25-23, 25-23, 25-16) in a CCAC battle on Saturday afternoon. The V-Hawks improve to 9-10 (2-2 CCAC) on the year, while the Bees fall to 118 (0-2 CCAC).

Guven Gedikoglu recorded the first kill of the match for the V-Hawks, followed by Logan Amdur and SJ Nelsson for the 11-9 lead. SAU errors helped keep the game close, and a Amdur-Dane Kerkman block gave VU a lead they would not relinquish as Alex Kratzenstein and Gedikoglu secured the win, 25-23.

Caleb Koza started the scoring in the second, though Viterbo fell behind early. Kerkman's consecutive kills helped close the deficit, and his block, with Gedikoglu, tied the match at 16-16. Nelson's kill started a run that was capped by another Kerman ace for the 21-19 lead, and a Bee error ended the set, 25-23.

Gedikoglu had three early kills in the third, and Kerkman's ace brought the score to 10-6. Kratzenstein put down a solo block, Nelson and Kerkman each had kills, Kratzenstein and Koza's block started the final run of the game for the V-Hawks, finished by Nelson's kill, 25-16.

Nelson led the V-Hawks with 12 kills, Amdur dished 27 assists with four blocks, and Juan Banda recorded 12 digs. Mikolaj Zielonka had eight kills for Ambrose.

Viterbo returns to action on Saturday, March 9 with a home tri-match with Olivet Nazarene and Dort.
