V-Hawks Swept by Pointers
STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The Viterbo University Men's Volleyball team traveled to US-Stevens Point on Saturday afternoon, but lost 0-3 (20-25, 21-25, 28-30). The V-Hawks fall to 6-9 on the year, while the Pointers improve to 8-5.
SJ Nelson started the match with a kill, but the Pointers built up a 9-3 lead. A Daxton Marschall ace and Dane Kerkman kill helped close the gap, and Logan Amdur's kill started a run that gave Viterbo the lead, 14-12. The teams traded points for a while, but the Pointers were able to string together a final run for the win, 25-20.
Ethan Davis had the V-Hawks first kill of the second, while errors from Stevens Point kept the match close. After a Nelson ace and Amdur kill, Viterbo led 12-9, but after a Caleb Koza kill, the UWSP took the lead. Alex Kratzenstein tied the match at 21-21, bur another strong finish gave Stevens P:oint the 25-21 win.
Nelson recorded another early ace in the third, wile Davis offered a pair of kills. Guven Gedikoglu had a kill and solo block to tie the match at 14-14. After trailing 22-17, Amdur recorded two straight blocks with Kerkman and Kratzenstein to start a run highlighted by three Davis kills for the 24-23 lead, but the V-Hawks were unable to complete the rally, and fell, 30-28.
Kerkman led the V-Hawks with 10 kills, while Davis added wight. Amdur had all 33 of the team's assists, Max Dugan recorded 13 digs, and Nelson had two aces. Zach Meyers had 17 kills for Stevens Point.
The V-Hawks return to action on Monday, February 26 as they host Judson University (Ill.).
