Men's Volleyball Ends Season with Senior Night Sweep

LA CROSSE, Wis. – The Viterbo University Men's Volleyball team swept Cardinal Stritch (WI) 3-0 (25-19, 25-23, 25-20) in a Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) match on Thursday. The V-Hawks improve to 8-18 (5-8 CCAC) while Cardinal Stritch falls to 6-12 (3-10 CACC).

The teams traded points until Cardinal Stritch took a 6 point stretch to make the score 12-13. Mason Werner contributed two kills. Viterbo answers back to gain the led 17-14 forcing a Cardinal timeout. The teams volleyed back and forth when Jacob Nonn and Alex Kratzenstein were able to contribute two kills each to put the V-Hawks ahead 24-18. Errors by Cardinal Stritch helped Viterbo take the set, 25-19.

The V-Hawks and Cardinal Stritch volleyed points until Viterbo was able to take a 14-9 lead, forcing a Cardinal timeout. Errors made by Cardinal Stritch and a kill by Joe Todd, Viterbo stretches their lead to 21-16 creates another Cardinal timeout. Cardinal Stritch expands their score to take the lead, 23-21, making the V-Hawks take a timeout. A kill from Kratzenstein and errors by Cardinal ended the set in Viterbo's favor, 25-23.

Viterbo was able to get off to an early lead of 7-3 with kills by Joe Todd, Nonn, and two by Caleb Koza. The teams traded points until Viterbo was able to expand their lead to 18-13 with kills added by Nonn and a service ace by Jaden Wiest. After a Cardinal timeout, the teams volleyed back and forth. Errors by the Cardinal and a two kills by Justin Kratzenstein ended the game, 25-20.

Nonn led all players with 9 kills, while Logan Amdur had a game high 19 assists and Juan Banda lead with 12 digs. Koza had 8 total blocks. Mason Werner led the Wolves with 7 digs.

Nonn completes his five-year career as Viterbo's all time leader in kills (1,305), digs (615), service aces (87), sets played (395), and fourth in blocks (101), and holds the single season kills record (349), and aces (27).

Todd finishes as second all-time in aces (71), third in blocks, and fourth in kills (344), and tied for fifth most single-season aces (23).

Despite missing almost all of his senior season, Kerkman still holds the all-time career record for blocks (199) and sits at fifth in kills (322).
