V-Hawks Sweep Lakers at Home

LA CROSSE, Wis. - The Viterbo University Men's Volleyball team took on Roosevelt University at home on Thursday. The V-Hawks topped the Lakers 3-0 (25-14, 25-18, 25-14). The V-Haws rise to 5-11 overall and 3-5 in league play while the Lakers fall to 6-11 overall (3-4 CCAC). 

The V-Hawks got off to a lead in set one putting up five back-to-back points with Jacob Nonn adding two kills, 6-2. Viterbo stretched their lead 15-7 with kills by Juan Banda and Nonn forcing a Roosevelt timout. The V-Hawks went on another run putting up six points in a row before the Lakers answered back with two kills by Shawn McCarthy bringing the score to 22-12. The Lakers added another two points before Banda recorded a kill to finish set one 25-14.

The teams started off set two trading points with a kill by Joe Todd putting Viterbo up 7-5. Viterbo and Roosevelt continued to trade points with the V-Hawks maintaining their lead 14-11. A couple errors by both teams forced a timeout by the Lakers before Todd added two service aces for the V-Hawks keeping them in the lead 21-15. The Lakers answered back putting up three points in a row with a kill by McCarthy bringing the score to 21-18. Viterbo would put up the next four points to win set two 25-18. 

Set three started off similar with both teams trading points with Viterbo claiming the lead 9-7. Banda, Nonn, and Kratzenstein each added a kill to help the V-Hawks stretch their lead 16-10. Each team added a few points before Banda and Nonn added kills with Viterbo up 21-13. The Lakers added three errors before a Todd service ace ended set three, 25-14. 

Nonn led the V-Hawks with 14 kills followed by Banda with 10 kills and 14 digs. Jaden Wiest contributed 24 assists. Todd added 3 service aces. 

McCarthy led the Lakers with 13 kills. Tony Galeana added 20 assists. Christopher Fermaintt contributed 11 digs.

The V-Hawks will host a triangular on Saturday competing against Saint Xavier at 1:00 PM and Jamestown at 6:00 PM CST.
