Edgewood's Spread Out Offense too much for V-Hawks

MADISON, Wis. – The Viterbo University Men's Volleyball team traveled to Edgewood College on Monday night, but fell to the Eagles 1-3 (17-25, 18-25, 28-26, 14-25). The V-Hawks now sit at 3-10 (1-4 CCAC) while Edgewood improves to 4-9.

The opening set started close, with four early ties coming from multiple kills by Juan Banda and Alex Kratzenstein. Edgewood would start to pull away, taking a 13-18 lead despite consecutive kills by Garran Wilming. Caleb Koza put down a solo block and Jacob Nonn recorded a kill, but it wasn't enough as the Eagles would win 17-25.

Joe Todd recorded two blocks to start the second, one with Nonn and Jaden Wiest, but EC would still outpace the V-Hawks, going up 9-14. Logan Amdur set up Banda and Nonn for a pair of kills and a Kratzenstein-Nonn block started a late run that included a Banda ace, but it would come too late as Edgewood would win 18-25.

Eagles errors, in addition to Kou Her and Todd kills helped keep the third set close early, and Amdur's kill from Daxton Marschall brought the score to 11-12. After going down 14-18, Kratzenstein helped start a run in which Nonn would record six late kills top propel the V-Hawks to victory 28-26.

Nonn kept the kills coming in the fourth, with two of the V-Hawks first three points, but Edgewood would respond with a big run to go up 6-14. Nonn and Kratzenstein each would contribute kills, but the Eagles would continue to roll to a 14-25 win.

Nonn led all players with 15 kills, Amdur had a career-high 20 kills, and Banda had a team leading 14 digs.  Todd also added three blocks.

Gavin Patterson had 10 kills and 11 digs for the Eagles, while Will Gehrke had 37 assists.

The V-Hawks return to action on Wednesday, February 22 as they travel to Cardinal Stritch University.
