V-Hawks Earn First Conference Win

DEERFIELD, Ill. – The Viterbo University Men's Volleyball team traveled to Trinity International University on Friday night for a Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) battle and claimed a 3-0 win (25-17, 25-17, 25-12). The V-Hawks improve to 3-1 (1-1 CCAC), while the Trojans fall to 0-5 (0-3 CCAC).

Juan Banda started the match with a kill from Jaden Wiest and an ace, but a 6-0 run by Trinity put them up 6-11. Joe Todd's kill ended the run and Kou Her's ace brought the score to 10-13. After the Trojans took an 11-16 lead, Banda started a run that was highlighted by Jacob Nonn kills, a Caleb Koza block, a Daxton Marschall ace, and a Wiest ace that ended the set 25-17.

Alex Kratzenstein's kill started the scoring for the V-Hawks in the second set, followed by kills by Nonn  and Todd. Nonn's kill at 11-9 started an 8-1 run that included kills from Todd and Banda to take a commanding 18-10 lead. Tiu would get no closer than four points, and Marschall's ace gave Viterbo the 25-17 victory.

Nonn's block and Banda's ace started the third set, along with Trinity errors, to give the V-Hawks 9-3 lead. Nonn added an ace, and Garran Wilming earned a kill to take a 15-6 lead. Wiest put down a kill, Marschall recorded another ace, and Nonn scored the final two point for Viterbo on kills to claim the win 25-12.

Nonn Led all players with12 kills, Wiest had a game-high 25 assists, while Banda had 11 digs, and four players had solo blocks. Matthew Perry had five kills, three digs, and two blocks for the Trojans.

Viterbo returns to action on Saturday, February 4 with games against Trinity Christian (Ill.) and Aquinas (Mich.).
