V-Hawks close out season on a high note with sweep over Cardinal Stritch

MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The Viterbo University Men's Volleyball team (12-8) was on the road on Thursday evening for their final regular-season Chicagoland Collegiate Athletics Conference (CCAC) match. The V-Hawks traveled to Cardinal Stritch University to face the Wolves, and dominated the match behind scores of 25-15, 25-18, and 25-10.

The V-Hawks .450 hitting percentage in set one, coupled with two runs of five or more points allowed Viterbo to coast to the 25-15 set one victory. Down 1-3 to begin set two, back-to-back errors by the Wolves, followed by back-to-back kills by the V-Hawks gave Viterbo a lead they would not give up. Up 22-18, two kills by Jacob Nonn and an ace by Andy Roungtakoun closed out set two, 25-18. The V-Hawks jumped out to an early lead in set three, but Cardinal Stritch was able to pull within one to make it 7-6. Then Joe Todd stepped up to the line to serve for the V-Hawks and rattled off the next 12 points of the match to give Viterbo a huge 19-6 lead. After trading the next couple of points, the V-Hawks finally sealed the set and match with a Nonn kill, followed by a block.

The V-Hawks were led by Nonn with 11 kills, followed by Todd with seven. Andrew Lepage collected 29 assists and Juan Banda finished with a team-high 12 digs. Unfortunately, a five-set comeback win by Olivet Nazarene University over Trinity Christian College late on Thursday night denied the V-Hawks a spot in the CCAC tournament. The V-Hawks finished their season with an overall record of 12-8 and their best CCAC record in program history to date at 5-7.
