Men's Volleyball gets back on track with win over Cardinal Stritch

LA CROSSE, Wis. – The Viterbo Men's Volleyball team (5-1) got back on track Thursday night with a 3-1 win over CCAC opponent, Cardinal Stritch. The V-Hawks won behind scores of 25-23, 25-18, 15-25, and 25-20.

In set one, Cardinal Stritch maintained a small lead throughout most of the match. However, after being down 18-14 late in the set, the V-Hawks outscored the Wolves 11-5, using a lengthy service run by Andrew Lepage and four kills by Jacob Nonn to take the set. 

Set two saw a close match up for much of the beginning, but after being tied at 14, the V-Hawks went on another 11-4 run to close out the set and go up 2-0. However, the V-Hawks struggled in set three, collecting only six kills and hitting .036 for the set.

In set four, the V-Hawks scored the first point and never gave up their lead. The Wolves were able to get within one point late in the set to make it 19-18, Viterbo, but the V-Hawks closed out the set on a 6-2 run to take the set and match. 

Nonn led the way for the V-Hawks, collecting 16 kills. Juan Banda had his first double-double of the season, getting 14 kills and to go along with 10 digs. Dane Kerkman added nine kills, hitting .692 for the match, while Lepage dished out 33 assists and contributed 14 digs to lead the team in both categories. 

The Viterbo Men's Volleyball team will face CCAC powerhouse, Saint Xavier on Saturday in Chicago. First serve is scheduled for 2:00 PM CST. Follow the action on our website or by following us on social media.
