Men's Volleyball goes 2-0 over the weekend

SIOUX CITY, Iowa – The Viterbo Men's Volleyball (3-4) picked up a pair of wins at the Morningside College Triangular at the George M. Allee Gymnasium on Saturday. Viterbo defeated Dordt University (3-5) in five sets, 22-25, 25-13, 25-16, 28-30, 17-15, in match one. The V-Hawks carried their momentum into match two, beating Morningside (0-3) in four sets, 25-21, 21-25, 25-14, 25-17.

Match 1 – Viterbo 3, Dordt 2

  • Viterbo dropped a close first set to Dordt 22-25. Brett Thompson led the first set with seven kills.
  • Thompson's 10th kill lifted the V-Hawks over the defenders in set two. The V-Hawk edged Dordt 25-23.
  • Viterbo took control of set three, winning 25-16. Thompson continued to lead with 14 kills.
  • After a tight back and forth battle, Dordt came out on top over the V-Hawks 28-30.
  • Viterbo managed to hold off the defenders and take set five 17-15.
  • Brett Thompson hit a career high 28 kills.
  • VU Leaders: Thompson 28 kills, Andrew Lepage 47 assists, Thomas Robson 18 digs.

Match 2 – Viterbo 3, Morningside 1

  • After nine ties, a service run from Joe Todd extended the V-Hawks lead to five points late in the first set. The Mustangs pulled within two, but a kill form Jacob Nonn followed by an attack error on Morningside gave the set to the V-Hawks 25-21.
  • Morningside took a two-point advantage early in the second. Viterbo was unable to overcome this deficit losing 21-25
  • In set three, the V-Hawks came back firing, hitting a .368 clip, while holding the Mustangs to only five kills the entire set.
  • Set four started with a 6-0 run by the Mustangs. With two big service runs from Jacob Nonn and Juan Banda, the V-Hawks were able to rally back and defeat the Mustangs 25-17.
  • Thomas Robson collected a career high 23 digs.
  • VU Leaders: Brett Thompson 12 kills and six blocks, Andrew Lepage 30 assists, Thomas Robson 23 digs, Juan Banda three service aces, Alex Kratzenstein six blocks.

The Viterbo Men's Volleyball team will be back in action Tuesday, February 16th at 7:00 pm to face off vs. Saint Ambrose University (3-9) at the R.W. Beggs Sr. Gymnasium. Follow the action on our website or by following us on social media.
