Justin Moore Finishes Top-5 at USA Track and Field Indoor Championships

ALBUQUERQUE, NM – Justin Moore, a senior on the Viterbo University Men's Track and Field team, competed at the 2023 USA Track and Field Indoor Championships earlier this month.

"It was an amazing opportunity to travel and compete against some of the best athletes in the country," said Moore. "It capped off my indoor season and set the tone for outdoors. I'm excited to put my Viterbo jersey back on and get to work with the team."

Moore, a 2022 Indoor NAIA All-American, scratched on his first attempt and leapt 7.24m (23-9.00) on his second attempt, putting him in ninth place. With only the top eight advancing to finals, Moore needed at least 7.34m on his third attempt. The Scurry, Texas native destroyed that mark with a personal record 7.52m (24-8.23). In the finals, he bested his own personal record yet again with a 7.58m (24-10.50) on his fifth jump.

Moore finished in fifth place, with just 11cm separating his mark from second place. His jump would be #1 in the NAIA Indoor rankings, and he will look to take this momentum into the NAIA Outdoor season starting on March 29.

"It was incredible to see Justin represent our university and program on such a big stage," said Head Coach Kody Michaels. "He rose up to the occasion and showcased just how talented he is. We're all excited to have him back in a Viterbo uniform for outdoor season!"
