Men's Track & Field Opens Season at Chuck Peterson Open

MANKATO, Minn. – Viterbo Men's Track & Field officially started their season at the Chuck Peterson against a field that ranged from NCAA Division II schools to junior college. The meet was hosted by Minnesota State University in the Myers Field House on Saturday. The V-Hawks finished eighth of 14 teams.

Maurice Savage (JR/Bloomfield, Conn.) lowered his personal-best time in the 60-meter dash finals. His time of 7.10 seconds was .04 seconds shy of breaking a school record (Josh Niebuhr, 2013). He placed fourth in the finals heat.

Jake Johnson (FR/Menomonie, Wis.) kicked off his first collegiate meet with a 5th-place finish in the 60-meter hurdles event with a time of 8.93. He also ran the 200-meter dash in 25.02 seconds (28th).

Vaungtre Young finished inside the top-10 in the 200-meter dash (23.77 sec), nearly third-quarters of a second from the school record (Paxton Smith, 2017).

Brett Richardson (FR/Madison) got his first taste of collegiate jumping events. He placed 12th in the high jump (1.74 m) and 19th in the long jump (5.44 m).

Aaryn Jones (SR/Youngstown, Ohio) led the throwers in the weight thrower, finishing in the top-10 with a throw of 13.73 meters. Damian Boberg (FR/Dodge, Wis.) started his collegiate career with two top-20 finishes, including a 19th place finish in the weight throw (9.41 m).

Viterbo takes a break from competition for six weeks. The V-Hawks will resume on January 19 at the Chelsey Henkenius Open at Wartburg College.
