Ascenzo Leads V-Hawk Defense

DAVENPORT, Iowa – The Viterbo University Men's Soccer team defeated Olivet Nazarene on Saturday afternoon 1-0. The V-Hawks now sit at 6-5-4 (CCAC 5-1-4) while the Tigers fall to 8-5-2 (CCAC 5-3-2).

Nicolas Lopez would take an early shot for the V-Hawks only two minutes into the match, before the Tigers would look to score, Ernesto Ascenzo clinching his first save of the match. Quickly regaining control of possession Joaquin Eichhorn would find the back of the net setting the V-Hawks up 1-0. Though the Tigers would dominate possession throughout the first half Ascenzo would keep a lock on the goal with numerous saves.

Eichhorn hungry for a second goal of the match would land another shot on goal before Sebastian Acosta would take an unsuccessful corner kick. In the 70th minute Nicolas Nunez Osorio would look to score, finding his own rebound would strike once more though ONU would put a stop to the ball. The Tigers again would dominate possession, Ascenzo's iron clad defense would keep the V-Hawks in the lead.

The V-Hawks took 13 shots with six landing on goal, while the Tigers took 27 shots 15 landing on goal. Viterbo goalkeeper Ascenzo recorded 15 saves on the day.

The V-Hawks return to action Thursday November 7th for the Conference tournament opening round.
