CROWN POINT, Ind. – The Viterbo University Men's Soccer team defeated Indiana University Northwest 1-0 Saturday afternoon. The V-Hawks rise to 3-4-4 (CCAC 2-1-4) while the Red Hawks fall to 1-10-4 (CCAC 1-2-4).
As the match kicked off the V-Hawks would start on the defensive end as Ernesto Ascenzo would record a save in the 4th and 7th minute of the game. Looking to change the momentum Conner Erdmann landed the first shot on goal in the 11th minute which would be saved by goalie Devun Collins. The V-Hawks would continue to let the shots fly throughout the half. In the 42nd minute Manuel Ruiz Merino connected with Luis Torres Enriquez who would shoot and score to give the V-Hawks the 1-0 lead going into the half.
Fouls were traded back and forth as the intensity picked up in the second half. Ascenzo would record three saves throughout the half to continue to keep the V-Hawks on top. A shot on goal in the 76th minute by Sebastian Acosta would be one of the few dangerous opportunities for the V-Hawks in the second half. Joaquin Eichhorn would land a shot high of goal in the 85th minute of the match finishing out the shooting for the afternoon.
Keeping the Red Hawks scoreless Ascenzo would record his 4th shutout of the season.
The V-Hawks return to action this Tuesday, October 22nd as they head to Bellevue for a non-conference matchup.
