V-Hawks Tie Conference Leader

LA CROSSE, Wis. – The Viterbo University Men's Soccer team clinched a draw on Wednesday afternoon in their match against Governors State University. The V-Hawks now sit at 1-4-4 (CCAC 0-1-4) while the Jaguars remain at 8-2-4 (CCAC 4-0-2).

Opening the match, Nicolas Lopez would take the first shot on of the match narrowly missing, smashing the crossbar, Joaquin Eichhorn taking a shot on the rebound landing high. Johan Hamnstrom would take the first shot on goal in the 19th minute, without reward. Despite control of the ball GSU would sneak the ball past Ernesto Ascenzo for the Jaguars to take the lead. In the 43rd minute Lopez would take a penalty kick though the Jaguars goalkeeper would snag the save going into the half.

Ascenzo would keep on the defensive with his first save of the match following four shots by GSU to open the second half. Manuel Ruiz Merino would attempt to score though the keeper would cutch the save. In the 56th minute Lopez would take to a penalty kick once more, coming out successful tying up the match 1-1. The final offensive attack of the match would come off a corner kick by Eichhorn, though the Jaguars would look to score in the final minute, Ascenzo with the final grab securing the tie.

The V-Hawks took 9 shots with six landing on goal, while the Jaguars took 13 shots five landing on goal. Viterbo goalkeeper, Ascenzo recording four saves on the day.

The V-Hawks return to the pitch Saturday, October 18 on the road at Indiana Northwest.
