The V-Hawks Battle for Season Opener

CHICAGO, Illinois – The Viterbo University Men's Soccer team draws 0-0 with the St. Xavier Cougars in their conference opener Tuesday evening. The V-Hawks are now 1-3-1 (CCAC 0-0-1) while the Cougars are 0-6-3 (CCAC 0-0-2).  

Ernesto Ascenzo would open up the match for the V-Hawks with a save in the 2nd minute. The V-Hawks would take the ball on offense, Nicolas Nunez Osorio recording the first shot on goal of the game for Viterbo, followed soon after with another shot by Andrii Ketsuk. In the 37th minute the Cougars would take their last shot of the half, Ascenzo earning another save. Connor Erdman would advance with one last shot of the half with less than a minute to go. The V-Hawks outshot the Cougars in the first half 5-3.  

The V-Hawks would take control of the ball early in the second half with a high header by Nicolas Lopez followed by another high shot by Nunez Osorio. Erdman would look to score once again in the 63rd minute, Sebastian Acosta would respond with a shot off the rebound though the Cougars goalkeeper would make the save. The V-Hawks would look to find the back of the net one last time to take the lead on a header by Maxime Lebon, landing wide, ending the match scoreless 0-0 

Ernesto Ascenzo would record 7 saves and his second shutout of the season for Viterbo.  

The V-Hawks return to action next Wednesday, October 2 against Trinity Christian.
