Lopez Scores Four Times, Defense Does Not Allow a Shot

LA CROSSE, Wis. – The Viterbo University Men's Soccer team dominated Calumet College of St. Joseph (Ind.) in a home Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) matchup on Wednesday afternoon. The V-Hawks improve to 5-1-5 (2-0-2 CCAC) on the season, while the Crimson Wave fall to 1-6-0 (0-5-0 CCAC).

The V-Hawks would be on the offensive from the very start, taking four shots in the first 15 minutes that would be blocked, before Nicolas Lopez had an attempt on goal saved by Grek Guzman in the 17th minute. Johan Hamnstrom followed that up very quickly with a goal at 17:45, assisted by Ville Forsmark. Lopez added two more goals in under a minute, one assisted by Goalkeeper Ernesto Ascenzo, the other by Matis Arlot. AJ Agbede would be the only one to record another shot on goal before the end of the half, but it was saved by Guzman.

Santiago Tellez started the second with a shot on goal that was saved, but Lopez extended the lead at 50:39 on a penalty kick. Forsmark added an unassisted goal of his own in the 56th minute, and after two more saved attempts by VU, Joaquin Eichhorn chipped in another penalty kick for the 6-0 lead. Guzman had three more saves before being subbed out for Sam Sullivan, but even though he recorded two saves, Lopez snuck in a fourth goal with under a minute left for the 7-0 win.

Lopez led with a career-high four goals, and three different V-Hawks had an assist. Viterbo took a total of 39 shots with 17 on goal. Ascenzo (W, 4-1-5) recorded the win as the V-Hawks defense did not allow a single attempt.

The V-Hawks return to action on Saturday, October 7 as they host Judson University (Ill.).
