Gyurkovits Scores Late to Seal Draw at Holy Cross

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The Viterbo University Men's Soccer team recorded a draw on the road at Holy Cross College (Ind.) on Saturday afternoon in a Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) matchup. The V-Hawks now sit at  4-1-5 (1-0-2 CCAC), while the Saints improve to 4-6-2 (2-2-1 CCAC).

The V-Hawks took the lead early, as Nicolas Lopez scored an unassisted goal in the seventh minute. Ernesto Ascenzo then recorded two saves before Holy Cross evened the score at 22:23. Neither team would record a goal for the remainder of the half, though Louison Poilpot did hit the crossbar on a shot.

In the second half, Holy Cross took the lead with a goal just :54 seconds in. Poilpot had another shot be saved in the 53^rd minute, and Ascenzo saved an attempt right back. Alfie Gyurkovits evened the score in the 84^th minute, assisted by Johan Hamnstrom. Hamnstrom took a final shot with 10 seconds left, but it would go wide.

The V-Hawks return to action on Wednesday, October 4 as they host Calumet St. Joseph (Ind.).
