Men's Soccer Releases 2023 Schedule

LA CROSSE, Wis. – The Viterbo University Men's Soccer Team has officially released their 2023 schedule. The V-Hawks, who went 15-2-1 last year, earned a spot in the Continental Athletic Conference (CAC) conference tournament and earned their first NAIA Top-25 ranking in over 20 years. In 2023, Viterbo will compete their first season as an associate member of the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC), and will be headed by First-Year Head Coach Roberto Yepez.

The V-Hawks, led by reigning CAC Goalkeeper of the Year Ernesto Ascenzo, begin their season on August 11 with a home scrimmage against Hawkeye Community College. The following day, they will host the Viterbo Alumni game before hosting their season opener against Morningside University (Iowa) on Thursday, August 17 at 1:00 PM. VU will play one final scrimmage at Upper Iowa on August 19, and finish the month with home matches against Clarke (Iowa) on August 22 and Bellevue (Neb.) on August 30.

Three-time All-Conference performer Alfie Gyurkovits and the V-Hawks enter September by hosting Carleton (Minn.) on the 4th, before back-to-back away games at Waldorf (Iowa) on the 6th, and Luther (Iowa) on the 8th. Viterbo then returns for home bout with Lawrence (Wis.) on September 16, followed by their CCAC home conference opener on September 20 against Saint Xavier (Ill.). on the 27th, VU welcomes Trinity Christian (Ill.), and end the month by traveling to Holy Cross (Ind.) on the 30th.

Jacob Battista led the team last year with 20 points and looks to build on his First-Team All-Conference selection as Viterbo opens October with back-to-back home games against Calumet (Ind.) on the 4th, and Judson (Ill.) on the 7th. On the 10th, the V-Hawks travel to Governors State (Ill.) and return to the Viterbo OAC on the 14th to host Indiana Northwest. A two-game road trip sees VU playing at Roosevelt (Ill.) on October 18 and St. Francis (Ill.) on the 21st. Their final home game comes on October 24 as they welcome St. Ambrose (Iowa), and the V-Hawks finish their regular season at two-time defending conference champions Olivet Nazarene (Ill.) on October 28.

Conner Erdmann, the final returning all-conference performer, and the V-Hawks hope to make their fourth straight appearance in a conference tournament, which will take place November 4, 8, and 11.
