Viterbo Hires Roberto Yepez as Head Men's Soccer Coach

The Viterbo University Men's Soccer team has officially announced the hiring of Roberto Yepez as their new Head Coach.

Yepez, a Bloomington, Ill. native, comes to Viterbo after serving as an assistant coach for the NAIA Point University (Ga.) Skyhawks Men's Soccer team in 2022 season. Prior to that, Yepez had been an assistant coach at his alma mater, Lincoln College (Ill.), for three seasons in which the Lynx went 23-8-3, made an NAIA National Tournament appearance, and Yepez helped raise the team GPA from 2.7 to 3.3. He is also the President and Founder of FC Diablos, an adult soccer club in central Illinois in the Midwest Premier League.

"I would like to thank AD Barry Fried and the search committee for this amazing opportunity," said Yepez. "Viterbo Men's Soccer has been a growing program, especially in the last 4 years. Coach Luke has done a great job with the program and has set a high bar. I am excited to build on top of the success of the program with an experienced group of returners. I can't wait to begin working with this group and begin the recruitment for the 2023 season."

As a player, Yepez was an All-Conference Honorable mention, as well as his team's Offensive Player of the Year one season, and Defensive Player of the Year another. He also played semi-professionally for the Baltimore Kings.

"We're excited to have Roberto on board," said Viterbo Athletics Director Barry Fried. "He's a high character person and will be a terrific coach and role model for our young men. His prior college coaching experiences have prepared him well for this job. He'll do things the right way and will work tirelessly to build our program and give our guys a great experience. He's a great fit for our soccer program and our University and I know he can't wait to get started."

Yepez is set to take over the V-Hawks on March 1, 2023.
