V-Hawks fall short at Conference Tournament

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - The Viterbo University Men's Soccer team, receiving votes in the most recent NAIA Top 25 Coaches Poll, traveled to Georgia for the opening match of the Continental Athletic Conference (CAC) Tournament. The second-seeded V-Hawks competed against No. 3 Florida National University (FNU) on Friday losing 0-1.

In the first half, Diego Arenal took Viterbo's first shot of the game at the 7:40 mark which resulted in a save by FNU goalie Victor Ruiz. The Conquistadors were aggressive early with two blocked shots by Nicolas Martinez. Markos Bakale of FNU scored the first and only goal of the game at the 25:43 mark. FNU would receive a red card and V-Hawk goalie Ernesto Ascenzo would record a save right before the half with a score of 0-1.

Viterbo took two uncusseful shots within the first 3 minutes of the second half followed with a save by Ascenzo at the 74:05 mark. Viterbo's Jacob Batista would take the last shot attempt for the V-Hawks at the 77:56 mark to no avail. Viterbo would receive a red card before ending the game 0-1.

Viterbo goalie Ernesto Ascenzo recorded 3 saves while FNU goalie Victor Ruiz recorded 2. FNU took a total of 11 shots compared to Viterbo's 5. Viterbo recorded a total of 9 corner kicks while FNU recorded 2.
