ARDEN HILLS, Minn. – The Viterbo University Men's Soccer team, ranked #24 in the most recent NAIA Top 25 Coaches Poll, traveled to Bethel University (Minn.) on Wednesday afternoon and come home with a 1-1 tie. The V-Hawks now stand at 12-1-1, while the Royals are now 7-7-1.
Bethel took the first few shot of the game, but at the 8:40 mark Polyzios Douvas would score on the first Viterbo shot of the game, assisted by Jason Battista and Benjamin Hoffman. Douvas would have a second shot on goal in the 20th minute, but it would be savedby Bethel goalie Juan Valdivia Cortes. Benian Yao would earn a penalty kick four minutes later, but was unsuccessful. Viterbo keeper Luca Colombo recorded his first save in the 26th minute, and the V-Hawks took the 1-0 lead into the break.
Nine minutes into the second half, Colombo saved another Royal attempt and after four V-Hawks shots, recorded another. Aidan Greer's shot on goal was saved by Jackson Olimb in the 82nd minute, and Matteo Galeotti's attempt was unsuccessful :30 seconds later. Jack Hanson scored an unassisted goal in at the 83:48 mark to even the score 1-1 each team would take one more goal, but neither would connect, and the game ended in a draw.
The teams took 11 shots a piece with each having dour on goal, and Viterbo took three corner kicks to Bethel's zero. Luca Colombo (T, 1-0-1) recorded three saves.
