V-Hawks Earn Highest Ranking in the Dunn-Era

LA CROSSE, Wis. – The Viterbo University Men's Soccer team comes in ranked #24 in the seventh edition of the NAIA Top 25 Coaches Poll, the national office announced on Wednesday. The V-Hawks were receiving votes in the previous six polls, but this is the highest Viterbo has been ranked, not only under Head Coach Luke Dunn (5th Season), but over the last 20 years as well.

Since the last poll was released, the V-Hawks traveled to Cedar Rapids for the Continental Athletic Conference (CAC) Invite and went 1-1 over the weekend. On Friday, Viterbo went up against #8 Georgia Gwinnett (now #6) and suffered their first loss of the season, 2-1. However, they were able to bounce back with a 5-1 win over Iowa Wesleyan on Sunday.

Jacob Battista and Sammy Ankaoglu lead the team with five goals apiece, while Sebastian Acosta and Matteo Galeotti have each posted five assist. Goalie Ernesto Ascenzo holds an 11-1 record with 36 saves on the season.

Viterbo continues their season on Wednesday, October 19 at Bethel (Minn.), and travel to Crown Point Ind. This weekend for matchups with Finlandia University (Mich.) and Campbellsville-Harrodsburg (Ky.).
