Erdmann's Late Goal Keeps Viterbo Perfect

MOORHEAD, Minn. – The Viterbo University Men's Soccer team, receiving votes in the most recent NAIA Top 25 Coaches' Poll, claimed a 2-1 victory on the road at NCAA Division III Concordia-Moorhead (Minn.) on Sunday afternoon. The V-Hawks improve to 11-0 while the Cobbers drop to 2-9-1.

Dakota Hatzenbeller had the first shot on goal in the game with a header in the eighth minute that would be saved by Moorhead's keeper Jensen Waltz. After Waltz saved two more shots, one by Benjamin Hoffman and Conner Erdmann Viterbo goalie Ernesto Ascenzo had his first save at 16:59. Both defenses would hold for the next 25 minute, until Liam Weiler put in a head goal from Telvin Vah at 41:53, just the second goal ceded by Vitebro this season. Johannes Obermann had one final shot to end the half, but it went high and the Cobbers took the 1-0 lead into halftime.

Jacob Battista quickly evened the score, finding the net on an assist from Jasper Bruisten just five minutes into the second half. Vitebro's offense took control in the second, with three shots and four corner kicks over the next 25 minutes. In the 77th minute, Aidan Radford and Diego Arenal set up Erdmannfor the go-ahead goal. Moorhead would muster two more shots on goal, but Ascenzo saved them both and the V-Hawks claimed the 2-1 comeback victory.

The V-Hawks outshot the Cobbers 15-9, including 9-5 on goal, and took nine more corner kicks. Ascenzo (10-0-0) earned the victory with four saves, and Waltz (0-1-0) had seven saves of his own.

The V-Hawks return to action Friday, October 14 against #10 Georgia Gwinett in Cedar Rapids, Iowa at the Continental Athletic Conference Classic.
