Ascenzo’s Clean Sheet Earns Him Player of the Week Honors

LA CROSSE, Wis. – Ernesto Ascenzo, a Junior goalkeeper on the Viterbo University Men's Soccer team, has been named the Continental Athletic Conference (CAC) Defensive Player of the Week the league announced on Monday. This is Ascenzo's second time earning this award.

Ascenzo, a Lima, Peru native, is coming off his seventh cleran sheet of the season, a 2-0 win at Central College (Iowa) on Saturday. Ascenzo recorded six saves, and stopped a penalty kick. The V-Hawks were playing a man down for most of the second half, but Ascenzo kept the shutout intact.

"Congratulations to Ernesto for earning his second Defensive Player of the Week award, which is fully deserved," said V-Hawks Head Coach Luke Dunn. "His performance is highlighted by a penalty kick save and a season high 6 saves, but the entire team put in a great performance for the win and 8th clean sheet of the season. It is never easy to win games and keep clean sheets, especially when you  go down a man and have a penalty kick awarded against you, so this performance from Ernesto and the rest of the team deserves this recognition and award."

The V-Hawks return to the pitch on Wednesday, September 21 at home against Hamline (Minn.). It is the V-Hawks final home game and Senior Day.
