V-Hawks Top Dutch 2-0

PELLA, Iowa – The Viterbo University Men's Soccer team earned a 2-0 win at NCAA Division III Central College (Iowa) on Saturday afternoon at A.N. Kuyper Athletics Complex Soccer Field. The V-Hawks improve to 8-0 while the Dutch drop to 1-3-1.

The first shot of the game would result in a Viterbo score, as Benjamin Hoffman put in an unassisted goal at the 12:05 mark. Central would begin to push the offense, recording three shots on goal over the next 10 minutes, but Ernesto Ascenzo would save all three. Viterbo's next shot on goal would also result in a goal, this time for Dakota Hatzenbeller in the 34th minute. Viterbo would take two more shots on goal to end the half, but both would be saved.

Defense would be the theme of the second half. Ascenzo saved a shot on goal in the 52nd minute and a penalty kick three minutes later. There would only be four more shots over the rest of the game, resulting in one more Ascenzo save and two John Foster saves.

Viterbo would outshoot Central 9-7 in the game, including 7-6 shots on goal, and take six corner kick to Central's five. Ascenzo (7-0) earned the win while recording six saves and Foster (1-3-1) had four.

The V-Hawks return to action on Wednesday, September 21 at 4:00 PM at the Viterbo Outdoor Athletic Complex to take on Hamiline (Minn.) on Senior Day.
