Viterbo Shuts out Martin Luther, Improve to 5-0

NEW ULM, Minn. – The Viterbo University Men's Soccer team defeated Martin Luther College (Minn.) 5-0 Monday afternoon at the MLC Soccer Field. The V-Hawks improve to 5-0, while the Knights drop to 1-1.

Viterbo would push the pace right away, taking nine shots in the first 15 minutes of the game, including four on goal. Sammy Ankaoglu took two of those shots on goal, and although he wouldn't find the net, Ankaoglu and Jasper Bruisten would each contribute an assist to Jason Battista's goal in the 24th minute. Just after Viterbo goalie Luca Colombo saved the Knight's only shot on goal, Benjamin Hoffman would put in a solo goal to put the V-Hawks up 2-0. Benian Yao and Carlos Tori would each record a shot on goal before the half, but goalie Adam Rosenbaum would save them both.

At the 58:20 mark, Matteo Galeotti set up Dakota Hatzenbeller for Viterbo's third goal of the game. Aidan Raford put three more shots on goal, and Joaquin Eichorn had one, but it would be Polyvios Douvas that would score the final V-Hawk goal, assisted by Eichorn and Adam Krakora.

Viterbo outshot Martin Luther 36-1, including 18-1 on goal, and Viterbo would take all 18 corner kicks in the game. Colombo (1-0) claimed the shutout win and recorded one save. Rosenbaum (1-1) was the losing goalie with 14 saves.

The V-Hawks return to action on Wednesday, September 7, as they play host to North Central University (Minn.).
