Bernstorf Leads V-Hawks at Verhille Invitational

IOWA CITY, Iowa – The Viterbo University Men's Golf team competed in the Mount Mercy University (Iowa) Verhille Invitational this week. The V-Hawks finished in 11th place out of 14 teams with a score of score of 646. VU was in 12th after Day 1, shooting 328, and improved by 10 strokes on Day 2 to move up to 11th.

Kirkwood Community College (Iowa) claimed the team title with a final score of 584. Baker University (Kan.) narrowly beat out host Mount Mercy for second place by one stroke, 608-609. The V-Hawks beat out St. Ambrose University (Iowa) by one stroke for 11th, but were also one stroke behind Mount Mercy (C) for 10th.

Grant Greazel of Kirkwood was the individual champion, shooting a 143 (71, 72) for 1 under par.

Owen Bernstorf was the top performer for Viterbo, finishing 19th at 154 (74, 80). Nicholas Tennis was tied for 43rd after shooting 87 on Day 1 and improving to 74 on Day 2 for a 161 total. Brice Klabunde and Aaron Raabe finished 52nd and 58th, respectively, separated by three strokes, 164 and 167. Andy Odom was the final V-Hawk to compete, finishing 71st with a 172 (88, 84).

The V-Hawks take to the tees again on Monday, May 1 for the first round of the North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) Championships.
