
Men's Golf Wins St. Norbert's Invitational
De Pere, Wis. - The Viterbo University Men's Golf team finished the regular season with a convincing win in the St. Norbert Invitational played at Royal St. Patrick's Golf Club in Wrightstown, Wis.
The V-Hawks finished with an impressive total of just 299 strokes, beating runner-up St.Norbert by 23 strokes. Senior Derrick Meier (Chilton, Wis.) was the individual medalist with a one-under-par-71.Mike Hesselman (Jr. - Edgerton, Wis.) finished second overall with a 73. Viterbo junior Jason Jorgensen (Onalaska, Wis.) was third overall with a 76.
"The guys played very well on a really difficult golf course," said Viterbo coach Jim Socha. "There's all kinds of trouble on this course," said Meier, "especially with the wind blowing like this."
Now, the V-Hawks play the waiting game, hoping to get an At-Large bid for the NAIA Championships in May at TPC Deere Run in Silvis, Illinois. Meier has already qualified for the event as an individual.
"We're 19th in the last Golf World poll," said Socha."Wefinished the fall ranked 17th in the NAIApoll. I really hope the guys get the bid.If you look at our record starting back in September and who we've competed against, I think we deserve a shot."
