V-Hawks Compete at USBC Sectionals

ADDISON, Ill. – The Viterbo University Men's Bowling team competed at Sectionals of the US Bowling Congress Intercollegiate Team Championships this weekend. The V-Hawks finished 17th out of 20 teams with 11,564 total pins over 64 games.

The first day of the competition was individual games, and Calvin Schnieder was the top performer for the V-Hawks, taking 88th with 1,225 total pins over six games, and a high of 226. Mikey Voge was next in 116th with 1,185 pins and a great fifth game, totaling 280. Austin Calmes was not far behind with 1,167 pins in 130th, and a high of 246. Nathan Arias had a high of 233 enroute to his total of 1,070 and 195th placing, and Mason Barsness was the final V-Hawks to score above 1,000 with 1,036. Erik Ludden scored 981 and Seth Bailey scored 434 in his three games played.

On Saturday and Sunday, teams played 32 games on each day, broken into 16 game blocks. They finished 19th out of 20 teams in the first block, totaling 2,680 pins. They also had the 19th highest total in the second block, with 2,814, but slipped to 20th. They jumped back up to 18th after the third block, as 2,998 was the 14th best score, and improved again in the fourth block with a score of 3,072, the 10th best, moving them to 17th.

UW-Whitewater claimed the team title with 13,546 pins. Kai Yamada of Mount Mercy was the individual champion.
