Viterbo Comes Out on Top in Conference Rematch
LA CROSSE, Wis. – The Viterbo University Men's Basketball team came out triumphant against Trinity Christina College 77-64 Saturday afternoon. The V-Hawks rise to 6-15 (4-10 CCAC) while the Trolls sink to 6-16 (3-11 CCAC).
Christian Rohde in the paint would score back to back layups for the V-Hawks before Colin Adams would find Carson Koepnick for three followed by drawing a foul taking to the free throw line. Ending a seven point run Koepnick would find Jack Voigt for the layup, followed by Adams with another before the clock ran out on the first half.
Quick in the second half Rohde would again move in the lane for the layup, next working the paint to kick out to Landon Thousand for a jumper. Voigt knocking down back to back shots would bring the V-Hawks within six on a small deficit. Braden Crubel with a jumper would tie up the game before Jacob Watson found Treyton Fletcher for three taking over in the lead. Keeping a narrow lead Rohde would score on a move in the lane before Koepnick would drain a three from Thousand. Viterbo working hard to widen the lead found Adams with back to back layups, Thousand continuing to hit crucial threes until no time remained.
Adams led the V-Hawks with 15 and Thousand with 13. Chris Cross led the Trolls with 22 points.
The V-Hawks outshot the Trolls from the floor 50.9% to 36.4% and from three 41.2% to 35.5% while also outrebounding 38-26.
The V-Hawks return to action Wednesday February 5 at on the road at Saint Xavier.
