Viterbo Outlasted in OT
LA CROSSE, Wis. – The Viterbo University Men's Basketball team fell in overtime to Calumet College of St Joseph Saturday afternoon 97-89. The V-Hawks sink to 5-14 (3-9 CCAC) while the Crimson Wave improve to 10-9 (5-7 CCAC).
Christian Rohde grabbing the rebound would take to the line knocking down both free throws to open V-Hawks play, Colin Adams to score the following six on hard drives to the basket. Midway through the half, Landon Thousand would find Christian Rohde for the dunk before draining back to back three's. Freshman, Treyton Fletcher as a lead supporter would find Adam's and Cole Crubel for back to back layups, before Lukas Hoffman knocks down a jumper with five minutes remaining in the half. Jack Voigt working under the basket would open the door for two layups supported by Thousand on a sneaky pass.
The V-Hawks coming out off the first half hot, Thousand draining a three, and Crubel drawing an and one. Thousand carrying the momentum would take down back to back three's, before working hard on offense, Voigt delivering the opportunity for another by Thousand. The V-Hawks keeping the game neck and neck, would drive in with Adam's claiming seven of the next nine points before the Crimson Wave tied up the game sending into overtime.
Despite CCSJ opening OT with the first six, Crubel would score a layup before dishing an assist for Carson Koepnick to drain a three. At the two minute mark the Crimson Wave would pull away, driving a force on both sides of the ball holding the V-Hawks to 89 while score another six to claim the win.
Thousand led the V-Hawks with 23 and Adams with 21. J.Caleb Slawinski led the Crimson Wave with 24 points.
The V-Hawks were outshot by the Crimson Wave from the floor 57.6% to 47.2% and from three 42.9% to 32.3% and were narrowly outrebounded 35-34.
The V-Hawks return to action Wednesday January 29 on the road at Olivet Nazarene.
