V-Hawks Fall to Mustangs
DUBUQUE, Iowa – The Viterbo University Men's Basketball team fell in day two of the Clarke Classic 85-71 to Morningside, Saturday afternoon. The V-Hawks fall to 1-1 while the Mustangs rise to 2-0.
Colin Adams would come out in the first few seconds of the game with a missed jumper, though freshman, Christian Rohde would grab the rebound and put back. Cole Crubel would find his way to the basket, finishing off on his own rebound, followed by another layup. Jack Voigt scored seven of the next 11 points. With only 14 seconds left in the half Lydell King would grab the rebound off a Braden Crubel block and draw a foul, before draining both free throws heading into the half.
The V-Hawks would begin the half from behind, though C. Crubel would score six of the first 12 points. Following a VU timeout King would come out with a three pointer from C. Crubel before Crubel would find Adams for a layup. Despite being at a deficit, the V-Hawks would push to close the gap with two layups from Adams. In a last stitch effort C. Crubel would pull up for a three, though it would not be enough to overpower the Mustangs.
C. Crubel led the V-Hawks with 20, Adams with 12, King with 11points. Joey Skoff led the Mustangs with 28.
The Mustangs outshot the V-Hawks from the floor 51.7%-45.8%, though the V-Hawks outshot the Mustangs from three40.9%-27.8%, while outrebounding 32-31.
The V-Hawks return to action on Tuesday, November 5, as host Edgewood in their home season opener.
