V-Hawks Win Season Opener

DUBUQUE, Iowa – The Viterbo University Men's Basketball team opened their season with a win over long time rivals, Clarke College (IA) 59-58 on Friday evening. The V-Hawks rise to 1-0 while the Pride fall to 0-1.

Colin Adams opened the game for the V-Hawks with an unassisted jump shot, followed by a jumper from Christian Rohde, who then produced a block shortly after. Lydell King would find Adams tying up the game before pulling up for a three himself. Kole Johnson would take to the floor with a made three from Jack Voigt. Braden Crubel would sink a three on the assist from Cole Crubel, before pulling up for another jumper keeping the narrow lead over the pride. Though CC would go on a run, King would sink one last shot for the V-Hawks, going into the half down 30-26.

Adams would score five quick points to open the second half, while the V-Hawk would still trail. B. Crubel would make the pas for Voigt to claim the and one, making the free throw tying up the game 40-40. Bradway would draw a foul following a Clarke timeout sinking both free throws, then finding Rohde for the layup beginning to pull away in the lead. With less than four minutes remaining in the matchup King would find Jake Fisher for the three to seal the deal as the V-Hawks opened their 2024-25 season.

Adams led the V-Hawks with 17, B. Crubel with 8, King and Voigt with 7 points each. Bryce Luster led the Pride with 10.

The Pride out shot the V-Hawks from the floor 35.5%-31.3%, though the V-Hawks outshot the Pride from three 30.4%-23.3%, while outrebounding 51-44.

The V-Hawks return to action on Saturday, November 2, as they face Morningside at the Clarke University Classic.
