Warriors Ground the V-Hawks

FOREST CITY, Iowa – The Viterbo University Men's Basketball team lost to  Waldorf University (Iowa) on the road, 84-74, on Wednesday night. The V-Hawks fall to 11-11 (5-6 NSAA) on the year, while the Warriors improve to 10-15 (5-6 NSAA).

Cole Crubel hit two threes to start the game, but Waldorf matched, then went up 14-6. Colin Adams then also hit a three, but the Warriors extended their lead to 18-9. Lydell King scored five points in short order, and Dakota Mannel converted and and-one, but the V-Hawks struggled to close the deficit. Stefan Popovic then scored five points and Mannel hit two free throws to leave the score at 33-45 going into halftime.

Malovrh and Mannel led the V-Hawks offense early in the second half, and after back-to-back jumpers from Crubel, Viterbo trailed 44-51. However, Waldorf build their lead back up to double-digits, and matched the baskets from Malovrh and Jack Monis to go up by as much as 17. Popovic, Malovrh, and King all had late buckets, but could not rally and the V-Hawks lost 74-84.

Crubel and Malovrh each scored 17 points, while Mannel had 16 with six assists, and Adams grabbed nine rebounds. Khyle Washington scored 25 for the Warriors, and Gabriel Sorensen recorded 12 rebounds.

Waldorf outshot Viterbo 48.4% - 39.4% from the floor, and 33.3% - 27.3% from three. They also grabbed more rebounds, 36-24, and committed less turnovers, 10-12.

Viterbo finishes their regular season on Friday, February 16 as they host Mayville State University (ND).
