V-Hawks Drop Road Contest to Dakota State

MADISON, SD – The Viterbo University Men's Basketball team lost to Dakota State University (SD) in a road NSAA bout on Friday night, 94-71. The V-Hawks fall to 6-12 (0-3 NSAA), while the Trojans improve to 13-7 (3-1 NSAA).

Jack Monis started the game with two consecutive Colin Adams-assisted baskets, and Adams would score two straight baskets of his won, but Viterbo still trailed 9-14. Two straight Cole Crubel jumpers started a run that was capped by a Carson Koepnick, which closed the game to one possession, 24-26 with 9:05 left in the half. The Trojans then went on a run to go back up double digits, but after Monis ended the run, DSU still trailed 33-47. Adams and Koepnick added jumpers assisted by Dakota Mannel to end the half, but the V-Hawks still faced a 37-54 deficit.

Ben Olson scored six early points to start the second half, and Monis added four as they teams traded baskets, and Adams hit a three to help bring the score to 56-63 at 14:18. Mannel scored five straight points for Viterbo, including converting an and-one and Olson would go to the line six times, hitting each one. However, after Crubel hit a triple, the V-Hawks were only able to score a single point over the final six and a half minutes, losing 94-71.

Monis led the V-Hawks with 19 points, while Olson had 16, Adams had 13 with seven rebounds, and Mannel dished 10 assists. Mison Coilton recorded 20 points and 12 rebounds for the Trojans.

DSU outshot Viterbo 50% - 46.6% from the floor, including 43.3% - 28.6% from three. They also grabbed more rebounds, 41-35 and committed less turnovers, 12-5.

Viterbo returns to action on Saturday, January 20 at Bellevue University (Neb.) at 5:00 PM.
