V-Hawks Fall in Exhibition at Northern Michigan

MARQUETTE, Mich. – The Viterbo University Men's Basketball team fell 61-86 in an exhibition match to NCAA Division II Northern Michigan on Thursday afternoon. The Wildcats improve to 5-5 on the year, while the V-Hawk's record is unaffected.

Viterbo scored the first five points of the game with a Garret Locy three and Nick Malovrh layup. After Keegan Severn's layup brought the score to 11-8, the Wildcats went on a run to go up 21-11. Colin Adams ended the run with a jumper at 10:16, but UNW continued to extend their lead. Malovrh set up Cole Crubel for a three at 4:24, but Northern Michigan responded with an -0 run. Malovrh ended the run, and Carson Koepnick hit a jump shot to end the half, 23-45.

Locy hit another three to start the half for the V-Hawks, followed by Severn scoring four straight points. Ben Olson then went on a run of his own, hitting two three and converting an and-one, but the V-Hawks still trailed 43-61. Locy found Stefan Popovic for a three, then hit one of his own at 6:50 and Adams added two more free throws. Crubel and Koepnick each scored layups to end the game, 86-61.

Olson led the V-Hawks with 15 points, and Locy added 13. Malovrh grabbed seven rebounds and dished three assists. Dylan Kuehl scored 20 for the Wildcats, Brian Parzych recorded nine assists, and Sam Schultz posted eight rebounds.

While the Wildcats outshot the V-Hawks from the floor, 53% - 41.5%, VU shot better from three, 40% - 34.5%. UNW also grabbed more rebounds, 37-21.

The V-Hawks return to action on Saturday, December 2 as the travel to UW-River Falls.
