V-Hawks Earn No. 2 Seed, Host Waldorf in NSAA Tournament

BISMARK, N.D. – The North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) has officially announced the bracket for the Men's Basketball Postseason Tournament, and Viterbo University earned the second overall seed, and the right to host a first-round game. The V-Hawks will welcome the Waldorf University Warriors on Tuesday, February 21 at 7 PM.

Viterbo and Dickinson State (N.D.) finished in a two-way tie in the NSAA standings with a 9-5 record each.  The V-Hawks owned the tiebreaker over the Blue Hawks after going 2-0 record in head-to-head meetings this season, securing the No. 2 seed in the postseason tournament.

The V-Hawks and Warriors split the season series, with Viterbo earning a 77-74 win on December 3, and Waldorf winning the final game of the regular season 56-71. Each team won on their home court.

Mayville State (N.D.) claimed the NSAA Men's Basketball regular season outright and will be the No. 1 seed, hosting No. 8 seed Presentation (S.D.). It will be the second straight game that both teams will play each other after MSU rallied back for a 77-70 road victory at Presentation Thursday evening. Dickinson State will be the No. 3 seed and hosts No. 6 seed Dakota State (S.D.). The final opening round pairings feature No. 4 seed Valley City State and No. 5 seed Bellevue.

The four opening round winners will advance to the Final Four at the final site in Watertown Civic Arena (in Watertown, S.D.) on Saturday, Feb. 25 and Sunday, Feb. 26.  The semifinals take place at 6 p.m., followed by 8 p.m. on Feb. 25, with the winners advancing to the championship game on Feb. 26 with a 4 p.m. tip-off time.

The NSAA postseason tournament champion earns an automatic bid to the NAIA Men's Basketball National Tournament's opening round.  The national tournament opening round is scheduled for March 7-8.

The winners of the NAIA's opening round games will advance to the final site at Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City, Mo. on March 13-18.
