V-Hawks Cruise to Victory on Senior Day

LA CROSSE, Wis. – The Viterbo University Men's Basketball team defeated Valley City State University (N.D.), 94-62, Saturday night. The V-Hawks improve to 14-10 (8-3 NSAA), while the Vikings drop to 13-12 (6-5 NSAA).

Mannel set up Ben Olson for a layup and Robert Cunitz for a three to start the game, and Jack Monis made it an 11-7 game at 15:46. The Vikings would take a 15-13 lead, but Colin Adams would fuel a 7-0 run to help give Viterbo a 24-16 advantage. Monis scored six straight for the V-Hawks, followed by three straight threes by Cole Crubel to give Viterbo a 12-point lead with three minutes left in the half, and Colin Adams made it 41-29 going into halftime.

Olson started the scoring for Vitebro in the second half with a layup and three, and Luke Spink would add  three of his own. Adams blocked a Viking layup, leading to a Mannel-assisted layup to go up 20 at 11:24. The V-Hawks stayed hot, hitting three consecutive threes to extend their lead, and Spink scored eight straight to make the lead 87-52 at 5:39. Keegan Severn scored five late points to bring the score to 94-62.

The V-Hawks outshot the Vikings 57.6%-40% from the floor, including a blazing 54.5% from three. Viterbo also won the rebounding battle 38-30.

Cole Crubel and Luke Spink each set career-highs, leading Viterbo with 21 and 17 points, respectively. Mannel added a career-high 14 assists and Adams had a 14 point, 10 rebound double-double. Daevonte Munson had 15 points for the Vikings.

The V-Hawks return to action on Friday, February 10 at Mayville State University (N.D.).
