Cardinal Stritch edges Viterbo in home OT thriller

LA CROSSE, Wis. - The Viterbo University Men's Basketball team faced Cardinal Stritch in their first game of the Gundersen Hotel and Suites Viterbo Men's Basketball Invitational on Friday. Viterbo lost narrowly in overtime to the Wolves with a final score of 79-77.

The game was close the whole time, seeing 14 ties and 16 lead changes. Cardinal Stritch led 38-36 at halftime, but Viterbo outscored them 33-31 in the second half to end regulation at 69 points apiece. Neither team led by more than five throughout the game. The Wolves outshot the V-Hawks on the floor but had nearly double the turnovers throughout the game. Both teams got into foul trouble, creating a total of 59 free throws between the two teams.

Brady Polk led the way in points for Viterbo with 23. He also contributed five rebounds, four assists, and four steals. Jack Monis had a double-double, recording 18 points and 12 rebounds. Noah Fredrickson came off the bench and tallied 15 points, converting four of his seven three-point shots. 

The V-Hawks will be back at it tomorrow at home at 2:00 p.m. for a game against College of the Ozarks (Mo.). Follow the action on viterboathletics.com or by following us on social media.
