Five Reach Double Digits as V-Hawks Roll Knights

LA CROSSE, Wis. – The Viterbo University men's basketball team has yet to play on the road in 2017, but they may never want to leave. The V-Hawks shot 61.3 percent in the first half as they downed Martin Luther College 91-69 for their sixth straight victory at the R.W. Beggs Sr. Gymnasium.

HOW IT HAPPENED

-Viterbo has been hot off the opening tip the last few games and on Tuesday, that did not change. The V-Hawks ran out to a 25-9 advantage in the first six and a half minutes and never looked back.

-Martin Luther cut it to eight with 11:43 to play, but three straight triples from Jared Fleischmann (JR/Marshfield, Wis.), Ethin Keikhafer, and Jake Bamke (SR/Hortonville, Wis.) had the V-Hawks up 17.

-The V-Hawks were 7-for-14 from beyond the arc in the first half, but dominated the paint as well, outscoring the Knights 18-8 as they built their halftime lead to 29 points at 57-28.

-Viterbo continued to pour it on with an 18-8 run to open the second half, stretching their lead to 39.

-The Knights outshot Viterbo 50 percent to 37.5 percent after the break, but it did not matter as the V-Hawks lead was too much to overcome.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

-Five V-Hawks players reached double digits led by Bamke's 18. The senior finished 3-for-5 from beyond the arc and hit five of his six free throws. Bamke added four rebounds, four steals, and two assists in 20 minutes of action.

-Jason Tichy (SO/Springville, Iowa) came off the bench to play 15 minutes and score 12 points. Tichy was 4-for-6 from the floor including a pair of triples.

-After converting less than 70 percent of their free throws in three of their last five games, Viterbo went 17-for-18 (94.4 percent) from the line, a season-best with at least 15 attempts.

-The V-Hawks six game winning streak is their longest since winning eight in a row during the 2004-05 season.
