
V-Hawks Flash Depth in Rout of Lakers
LA CROSSE, Wis. – The R.W. Beggs Sr. Gymnasium has been good to the Viterbo University basketball team so far this year and on Wednesday, the V-Hawks picked up their third straight at home. Viterbo dominated from the whistle and took care of business, routing Silver Lake College 91-37.
HOW IT HAPPENED
-The V-Hawks defense was on lock down immediately, opening the game on a 12-3 run in the first eight minutes.
-The Lakers would reach double digits to close their deficit to nine, but Viterbo doubled up Silver Lake the rest of the half for a 36-18 lead.
-Viterbo unloaded their bench in the second half and the offense was on fire. The V-Hawks shot 70.1 percent after halftime, going 22-for-31 from the floor.
-Defense was also outstanding, as Silver Lake scored just five points in the first nine and a half minutes of play.
-The V-Hawks continued to find the basket, stretching their lead to 51 with 2:01 left in the game as they cruised to the rout.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
-As a team, Viterbo shot 59.3 percent, their highest mark of the season. The V-Hawks converted eight of 19 three-pointers as well.
-Austin Poehls (JR/Cadott, Wis.) finished with an impressive line of 18 points and five assists in just 17 minutes.
-Calven Pesola (FR/Lakeville, Minn.) and Zach Baker (FR/Coon Rapids, Minn.) also joined in double digits with 13 and 11, respectively. Pesola drilled three triples as he finished 5-for-8 from the floor.
-Viterbo dominated the boards, totaling 52 rebounds to Silver Lake's 22.
-The 37 points allowed were the fewest allowed by Viterbo since a 59-37 victory on January 13 2005.
