Second Half Three-Point Barrage Pushes Jimmies Past V-Hawks

LA CROSSE, Wis. – After rolling out to a 10-point halftime advantage, the Viterbo University men's basketball team looked to have control of Friday night's game. The University of Jamestown let it fly from deep in the second half, however, as they hit nine second half triples to top the V-Hawks 74-70.

HOW IT HAPPENED

-Viterbo built a 10-point lead in the first half thanks to 53.8 percent shooting from the floor and some timely rebounds.

-The V-Hawks dominated the glass, owning a 23-11 advantage in that category.

-Erik Engelstad (SR/Cambridge, Wis.) poured in 16 first half points to help Viterbo jump ahead.

-Jamestown would not bow out, however as they opened the second half on a 20-6 run thanks to 14 points from Riley Henderson.

-The Jimmies continued to hit from three-point range as they converted nine in the second half and owned a five-point lead with 3:06 left.

-Ethin Kiekhafer (SO/Colfax, Wis.) came up big in the second half for Viterbo, converting two three-point plays and pulled in an offensive rebound which led to a basket to pull ahead 67-66.

-Down one with 43 seconds left, Ethan Haberman (JR/La Crosse, Wis.) hit a baseline jumper for the lead with just 28 ticks on the clock.

-The Jimmies responded with an off-balance three-pointer on the ensuing possession, however, and Viterbo was down two with the ball.

-The V-Hawks couldn't get a basket to fall on their possession and were forced to foul which led to free throws for the Jimmies.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

-Engelstad finished with a career-high 25 points on 8-for-10 shooting. The senior hit nine of 10 free throws and pulled in nine boards.

-Jared Fleischmann (JR/Marshfield, Wis.) chipped in 10 points to go along with four rebounds and four assists.

-Jake Bamke (SR/Hortonville, Wis.) also dished out four assists to go with nine boards and six points.

-In just 13 minutes, Kiekhafer recorded eight points and five rebounds off the bench.

-Viterbo attempted just nine three-pointers, a season low.

-Henderson led Jamestown, scoring all 22 points in the second half. The sophomore hit six of 10 three-pointers.
