Two Esports Teams Compete on National Stage

LA CROSSE, Wis. – A pair of Viterbo University Esports team completed on the national stage last week. The V-Hawk's Rainbow 6 Siege team fell 0-2 to Edinboro University (Penn.), while the Fortnite team finished 7th of 48 teams in the Zero Build Championships.

The Siege team, consisting of Devin Brown, Ben Fleuchaus, Draven Williamson, Alex Boardman, and Jayziah Calo, qualified for the national match after taking second place in their divisional bracket. The V-Hawks were ranked eighth, but upset the #1 and #4 ranked teams on the way to the championship match. Viterbo fell to the Edinboro Fighting Scots, but got the chance for a rematch a few days later. However, the Scots had their number, defeating the V-Hawks again, 2-0 (7-4, 7-4). VU ended the season ranked second in the conference and 3rd nationally. The only team they lost to would be Edinboro, three different times, and it was VU's first appearance at NECC Nations and first conference final appearance.

Willamson and Brenden McDonald also competed in the national Fortnite Zero Build Championships on Saturday. The duo, who has also competed in the regular Fortnite National competition twice, started the finals extremely strong, sitting in second place after three games. However, the momentum slowed, and the V-Hawks scored only three points over the last three matches. VU finished seventh place out of 48 teams in the competition, and 140 teams nationwide.

This weekend marks the final competition for the Esports seniors, Alex Boardman and Draven Williamson.
