V-Hawks Collect a Pair of Playoff Wins

LA CROSSE, Wis. – The Viterbo University Esports team began postseason play last week, with two of the three team securing wins and advancing. Counterstrike 2 beat Louisville, 2-0, Rainbow 6 Siege defeated Arkansas State, but Overwatch lost, 0-3.

The Counterstrike team put together a dominating victory, starting the match with a 13-3 win on Louisville's map pick, Overpass. They followed that with a 13-4 win on the V-Hawks map, Vertigo. Anthony "Flop" Pope was VU's top performer with 35 eliminations between both maps, and Devin "Eggsgoingham" Brown was right behind him with 26 Eliminations. The V-Hawks now look ahead to the top seed in their bracker, Oklahoma City University on March 27 at 7 PM.

The V-Hawks Rainbow 6 team took down the division's top seed, Arkansas State, 2-0. Despite tying for second place in the regular season, tie brakers gave Viterbo the lowest seed in the playoffs, but that did not phase the V-Hawks for a second. Great strategical calling from Ben Fleuchaus helped Brown put together another fantastic performance, leading to a pair of 7-4 wins on Consulate and Nighthaven. VU now looks ahead to March 26, where they take on Fanshawe College in the semifinals, a team they defeated 2-1 in the regular season.

The Overwatch team's season came to an end last week, falling 0-3 to Tarleton State. The V-Hawks, who were missing one starter on the team, kept each game close, and began to mount a comeback in the third, but it fell short, and TSU secured the sweep.
