V-Hawks Fortnite Returns to Nationals
LA CROSSE, Wis. – The Viterbo University Esports Fortnite team will be returning to Nationals this weekend. The duo of Draven Williamson and Brenden McDonald dominated in the final week of qualifiers to make their second appearance on the national stage.
In order to qualify, the team competed in qualifying tournaments of 50 teams. They needed to finish in the top four after four matches, with points being scored based on final placement in each match and total eliminations.
This week, Draven and Williamson took second place in the first match with six eliminations, then matched their placement with five eliminations in the second match. After a down performance in the third match in which they recorded seven eliminations, but only placed seventh, they finished the week with their best game, taking first place with 13 total elimination.
On the week, they earned 76 points from placements and 31 from eliminations for a total of 107 points, crushing the second place team with 76.
Last year, the V-Hawks took 14th of 49 teams, and had the best performance of any Wisconsin team.
The national competition will be streamed on the V-Hawks Twitch page, starting at 2 PM on Saturday, March 2.
