Viterbo Highest Finishing Wisconsin Team at Fortnite Finals
LA CROSSE, Wis. – The Viterbo University Esports team suffered a pair of close losses in Overwatch and Valorant last week, but the Fortnite team had a strong performance at the Fortnite Grand Finals to finish the week. The Overwatch team fell 1-2 to Keiser University-Sarasota (Fla.), and Valorant lost 0-2 to Keyano College (Alberta), while Fortnite finished 14th 49 teams.
Overwatch – L, 1-2
- The V-Hawks claimed the first match with an overtime win playing Control on Lijang Tower. David Ryckman, playing as Orisa earned the play of the game.
- While playing Hybrid on Kings Row, the V-Hawks fell behind 0-3, but mounted a comeback tie the match at 3-3. Viterbo would eventually fall, evening the score 1-1
- The tiebreaker came down to Escort, played on Route 66, in which Keiser claimed Victory.
Valorant – L, 0-2
- The Valorant matches were all offense, as each team ceded a majority of the rounds on the defensive end.
- The first match on Lotus saw a 10-13 Viterbo loss. Mikey Voge had 20 kills, seven assists and three plants, while Justin Kratzenstein added 20 kills of his own. Alex Boardman posted a game-high six plants.
- The V-Hawks built a 9-3 lead in the second match on Pearl, but lost in the end 11-13. Draven Williamson had 20 kills and a single plant and defuse. Voge had had 15 kills and a team-high three plants.
Fortnite – 14th of 49
- The V-Hawks had a total of 32 points, including 13 elimination points and 19 placement points. Viterbo narrowly topped Emporia State, winning the tiebreaker with 1 more placement point.
- Viterbo was the highest placing team from Wisconsin, and the fourth ranking team in the Western Division.
