V-Hawks Fortnite Qualifies for Colleges Finals in First Competition

LA CROSSE, Wis. – The Viterbo University Esports team competed in their first ever Fortnite competition on Saturday. The team of Brendan McDonald and Draven Williamson earned second place with 82 points, qualifying them for the College Finals in their first competition.

Teams earn 25 points for a Victory Royale, 20 points for second, 16 for third, 14 for fourth, and one less point for every place until 1 point for 17th. Each elimination is also worth one point. There are 30 total teams in the Western Conference and the top three from each qualifying event qualify for the college finals.

The V-Hawks started in the best way possible, with a Victory Royale and 10 total eliminations in their first match ever. In the second match, the V-Hawks would fail to record any eliminations, but still managed to finish in eighth place. Viterbo bounced back in the third match, finishing fifth with five more eliminations, and finally finished third place with three more eliminations in the fourth match.

The V-Hawks ended with 64 placement points and 18 eliminations, 11 from McDonald and eight from Williamson.

Bushnell University claimed the top spot with 127 points. Viterbo narrowly edged out Oklahoma with 87 points and Carthage College with 77 points.
