V-Hawks Get Spilt by Tigers

BOURBONNAIS, Ill. – The Viterbo University Baseball team won one and lost one Friday afternoon for day two of their series at Olivet Nazarene.  The V-Hawks fall to 22-20 (CCAC 17-11) while the Tigers also fall to 21-22 (CCAC 17-15).

Viterbo 16, Olivet 8

The V-Hawks opened game one of the day with four runs in the first, keeping momentum with a fun in the second and third before the Tigers would come back within two runs. With a huge fourth inning the V-Hawks surge to 12 runs before smashing the seventh with four runs to claim the win.

Anthony Sanchez pitched the first four innings with four strikeouts, letting up eight runs and seven hits. In relief, Bryant Koenig struck out three batters, letting up two hits and no runs for the save.

At the plate, Gavin Daniel's triple would help, Spencer Hans three RBIs, followed closely by Dane Mediger, Brett Stuessel, Nathan Faust, and Cody Lozano would also collected two doubles.

Viterbo 15, Olivet 17

Falling behind the Tigers would score seven runs over the first two innings, the V-Hawks responding with a four run third inning, though with every run the Tigers would respond with their own in the final inning the V-Hawks would snatch four final runs falling four behind to end.

On the mound, Cale Beckman would start for two innings, with two strikeouts, five hits, and eight runs. In a series of relief pitchers there were four additional strikeouts, nine additional runs with a loss dished to Brandon Shepherd with four hits and two homers.

Stuessel led game two from the plate with a double and five RBIs, Xavier Gilmore with a double and two RBIs, while Mediger would deliver a sacrifice bunt.

The V-Hawks return to action Wednesday April 23 for one game with UW-Parkside.
