V-Hawks Sweep Crimson Wave

LA CROSSE, Wis. – The Viterbo University Baseball team swept Calumet College of St. Joseph in day two of their series.  The V-Hawks rise to 19-17 (CCAC 14-10) while the Crimson Wave sinks to 6-23 (CCAC 6-17).

Viterbo 11, Calumet 0

The V-Hawks holding the Crimson Wave to zero until the fifth inning. With a huge sixth inning the V-Hawks would score an additional nine runs, holding Calumet to none.

Anthony Sanchez would pitch a full seven innings on the mound, striking out five batters while allowing two hits.

On base Xavier Gilmore would lead with two stolen bases, while also collecting a double and two RBIs. Gavin Daniel would also bat in two runners along side Matt Monaghan, and Dane Mediger. The V-Hawks finished game one of the day with 13 hits.

Viterbo 13, Calumet 4

Taking an early lead in the first on a sacrifice fly the V-Hawks would continue to build their lead, the Crimson Wave responding in the sixth with four runs including a home run, though the V-Hawks would continue to rally through the eighth for the win.

Starting on the mound for the win Cale Beckman would strikeout four batters, letting up three runs in five hits and five innings. Adam Olson would pitch an inning in relief before Joe Nelan and Kyle Burns would finish out the game striking out three batters collectively.

Spencer Hans, Brett Stuessel, and Mediger would turn a double play in the field, while at the plate Stuessel would bomb two doubles and two RBIs. Sean Rooney would collect two stolen bases, followed by Hans and Gilmore.

The V-Hawks return to action Tuesday April 15, to take on Clarke for a non-conference double header.
